Our Performance Dev group (previously Black 2) is for swimmers who have achieved their East Coast Championships time standards and/or have attended East Coast Championships in the past. This group has the main focus of the development of all competitive skills to work towards placement in our Performance stream. Swimmers in this group are starting to show leadership qualities for our team, and show commitment and passion towards the sport. Swimmers in this group are expected to represent the Legends at local, provincial, and out-of-province competitions, with priority meets being identified by the Head Coach. Commitment is monitored in this group via attendance at practice and competitions. Swimmers who fail to show commitment will work with the Head Coach to identify a solution, as spots in this group are limited and are of the highest priority. Persistent absence from training and competition could result in removal from the group. Swimmers will work with their group coach under the direct supervision of the Head coach to continue this development. Intensity will be raised in the training environment, with refinement of stroke skills remaining a big focus. Some other key focuses for this group include:
- Introduction to a gym environment, including weight training and gym etiquette. Following a structured but basic strength program.
- Swimmers will develop proper training etiquette: punctuality, an activation routine, how to understand and carry out more complicated sets and the flow of a practice
- Swimmers will begin the process of taking ownership over their training and racing plans under the guidance of their coaches. Goal-making, attentional focus and emotional control in the racing environment are all focuses.
- Swimmers are expected and will compete across all Olympic events - 50m - 1500m!
