This free session is a "try-it-before-you-buy-it" session is designed for young, enthusiastic swimmers who love the water and want to see what club swimming is all about. This interactive session gives prospective swimmers a chance to jump in the pool, experience our coaching style, and try out real swim workouts in a fun, positive, and supportive environment—with no obligation to commit! This session is ideal for confident young swimmers who have built strong basic skills and are looking for a new aquatic challenge. To make sure every child stays safe and enjoys the session, participants should:

Be able to swim one length (25m) each of:
- Front crawl
- Backstroke
- Breaststroke
Do not require flotation aids or instructor assistance in the water.
Be comfortable swimming in deep water (i.e., water over their heads).

Note: These skills typically describe swimmers who have completed Swimmer 4 or an equivalent level in swimming lessons.

Tryouts Assessments : Tryouts

Is your child ready to take the next step in their swimming journey? The St. John’s Legends tryouts are for all new or transferring swimmers interested in becoming a Legend.

Tryouts allow our coaches to see each swimmer’s skills and determine the best group placement. You don’t need to be an expert — we welcome a wide range of abilities and look for swimmers who are eager to learn, improve, and enjoy being part of a team.

At a minimum, swimmers who can swim one length of the pool (25m) on their front, on their back, and do so unassisted are encouraged to tryout. It doesn't need to look great, we'll take care of that!

Tryouts are free.
