Program Information
Varsity swimmers are ambassadors and representatives of the St. John’s Legends in Canada and abroad. They also are mentors to our current swimmers. Varsity swimmers who wish to continue their swimming journey during their school's off-season can do so through the Legends and can apply through our Associate Swimmer Policy. Please reach out to manager@sjlegends.com for additional information.
The Performance stream is for our highest-performing athletes at SJL. This group has swimmers who have qualified for East Coast Championships and are working towards or have already achieved National Standards, including the Ontario Junior International (OJIs), Canadian Open (CO), Canadian Swimming Championship (CSCs), and Junior/Senior Canadian Swimming Trials (Trials).
Swimmers in this group are our team’s leaders and must demonstrate by example commitment and passion towards the sport at the highest level. Swimmers in this group are expected to represent the Legends at local, provincial, and out-of-province competitions, with priority meets being identified by the Head Coach. Commitment is monitored in this group via attendance at practice and competitions. Swimmers who fail to show commitment will work with the Head Coach to identify a solution, as spots in this group are limited and are of the highest priority. Persistent absence from training and competition could result in removal from the group. Swimmers will work with the Head Coach to continue their development in an intense and deeply planned training environment.
St. Johns Legends Swim Club program is designed to foster the pursuit of excellence and support swimmers in the development of a successful swimming career. Our training groups are designed to complement the abilities and skill development of all athletes. The program is designed and follows the Appropriate Athlete Development (previously known as LTAD) outlined by Swimming Canada.
The objective of the pre-competitive program is to identify and inspire swimmers to participate in a competitive program. In these groups, we will teach and help swimmers to develop all 4 competitive strokes, develop competitive skills, and prepare the swimmer to make a successful transition into our competitive program.
The St. John's Legends Swim Club Summer Camps will provide your swimmer with a fun summer, swim-focused, camp experience with a focus on improving their swimming technique. Participants will be in the water for two one-hour sessions throughout the day separated by fun camp activities such as crafts, games, and outdoor activities (when the weather allows).
- Ideal for swimmers in both Lil Legends levels, Legends 12 and under, or swimmers interested in an aquatic-focused summer camp experience.
- Swimmers must be able to swim 1 length (25m) of Free, Back, and Breast each, unassisted to participate in the camps.
- Participants who are not currently registered as swimmers with a Swimming Canada Swim Team will be registered with Swimming Canada for purposes of attending the camp.
- Participants must bring their own: swimming gear, active wear (t-shirt, running shoes, shorts), lunch and snacks, sunblock, and a filled water bottle.
- Swimmers who have participated in a week of summer swim camp will be evaluated for placement on the Legends Swim Team for the 2024-25 season and will not have to attend a tryout in the fall.
We welcome all transferring or new swimmers interested in joining the Legends to register for a tryout. Click below for information and to register for our next tryout sessions. Any prospective swimmer looking to join the St. John's Legends Swim Club must complete a tryout. This will allow our coaches to evaluate the swimmer's skills for appropriate placement within the clubs training groups.
