Our Coaching Staff
The St. John's Legends employs a professional, qualified, full-time head coach to lead our competitive swim club who is supported by a group of qualified, passionate, part-time coaches and administrative staff. We are here to support your needs. If your questions are related to training, competition, team events, goal setting, and other swimming development-related topics, please reach out to your swimmer's group coach first.
Alec Ralph
Head Coach
Performance
Alec is a 2022 Canada Games Assistant Coach, former Head Coach for the CBS Bluefins (2020-22) and long time swimmer. Alec brings his experience, passion, and dedication to the Legends and is focused on improvement in his atheletes. Alec is a Senior Coach - Trained coach.
Megan Fitzgerald
Assistant Coach
Performance Development / Sr. Provincial
Megan has 8 years of competitive coaching experience and 14 years of competitive swimming experience. She swam competitively in Nova Scotia for 10 years, and went on to swim for Mount Allison University’s varsity swim team. Megan is currently a graduate student in chemistry at Memorial University and is dedicated to developing the Legends athletes into both well-rounded swimmers and young adults. Megan is an Age Group Coach - Trained coach.
Haley Fitzgerald
Assistant Coach
Atlantic / Sr. Provincial
Haley has been a competitive swimmer for almost 15 years and a coach for 8. Haley has both swam and coached for a variety of teams in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. This Fall they will be beginning their Master of Science in Human Kinetics and Recreation focusing on Sport Psychology. Haley is very passionate about sharing their knowledge of swimming and hopes to make an impact with swimmers both in and out of the pool. They aim to do this by ensuring that swimmers are working towards their goals but are also having fun while doing it, fostering good team dynamics and friendly competition
Paul Dawe

Lead Coach Lil Legends and Swim School
Paul swam competitivly as a youth and began his coaching career in '89 when he came to St. John's. He is a former Legends Head Coach (2001 - 2006), 2005 Canada Games Head Coach, as well as having held multiple roles in Aquatics and swimming over the past 30+ years. Currnetly working as an educator, Paul is excited to return to the Legends and provide his wealth of experience and focus on technique to our Lil Legends program. Paul is Senior Coach - Trained coach.
Polina Konstantinova
Assistant Coach
Junior Provincial
Polina swam with the Legends for nine years and with the Memorial University Sea-Hawks for three years. She is currently studying Biology and French at MUN. She has been coaching with the club since 2015 and is looking forward to this season with the swimmers in Junior Provincial.
Jada Roberts
Assistant Coach
Competition Development
Jada swam with the Legends for 6 years before beginning coaching in 2024. She is a second-year university student studying kinesiology at Memorial. Jada loves working with young swimmers and she's looking forward to a fun and exciting season with Competition Development.
Eve Martin
Assistant Coach
Competition Development
Eve started swimming with Legends in 2017 and quickly advanced during her time with the team. She has a passion for swimming and hopes to pass this passion on to young swimmers! Using her previous coaches as inspiration, she has decided to put her all into her coaching. In her second year as coach, she looks forward to helping her swimmers meet their goals this season!
Annabel Penton

Annabel joined the Legends coaching staff in 2023. She swam with the legends for 8 years and is excited to share what she learned in the water to the swimmers of Little Legends and Swim School! She has developed a passion for coaching and is excited to see where this season takes us! Annabel is student in the Business program at MUN.

Our Administrative Staff
The St. John's Legends also employs a professional, qualified, part-time administrative staff to support the administrative needs of our swim club. For all questions related to the administration of the Legends such as; scheduling a try out, registration, fees, safety, policies, or general administration of the club please reach out to our Team Manager.
Christopher Mercer, B.Rec, ChPC.
Christopher joined the Legends in 2016 after five seasons with the Dartmouth Crusaders. He has coached with the Legends for 6 seasons before transitioning into his current role as our team manager. He is a Chartered Professional Coach, Senior Coach - Trained (level III), has represented Team NL as an assistant coach at the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg, and Team St. John's North at the 2024 NL Summer Games in Bay Roberts. Christopher currently manages our administrative aspects of the Legends in close conjunction with Head Coach Alec and the Board of Directors. His goal is to ensure the smooth operations of the Legends Swim Club. He brings over a decade of Coaching and Aquatic programming experience to the club.
